The historical marker “Newmarket Racecourse” will be dedicated at 2 p.m., during a public ceremony at the Exchange Building, located at 15 W. Bank Street, in Petersburg.
Petersburg Preservation Task Force Executive Director H. “Edward” Chip Mann will host the ceremony which will include brief remarks from The Rev. Pegram Johnson, the force behind the marker’s creation; Ferris Allen, Director of the National Thoroughbred Association, and James Hare of DHR.
The ceremony is expected to last approximately 20 minutes and light refreshments will be served immediately following.
