Historical Marker “Shoeless Wonders” to be Dedicated

The historical marker “Shoeless Wonders” will be dedicated in Lynchburg, at the marker’s location near HumanKind, 150 Linden Ave, Lynchburg, VA 24503. The ceremony begins at 5 p.m.

The “Shoeless Wonders” recalls the football team of the Presbyterian Orphans’ Home, which played its first games by 1922. “The players, boys under the age of 18, received minimal coaching, wore second-hand uniforms, and soon began competing without shoes, except for a boot used during kickoffs,” according to the marker.
