The Southwest No. 1 Boundary Marker of the Original District of Columbia is located near the southwest corner of the intersection of Wilkes and South Payne streets in the city of Alexandria. This Aquia sandstone marker has relatively deterioration, and is in the best condition of any of the stones on the Virginia side of the original district boundary. The letters of the SW Number 1 marker are smaller than those of the other stones and are in a different script. This has led to the speculation that is the work of a different stone carver than the other stones.
The Southwest No. 1 Boundary Marker was listed under the Multiple Property Document (MPD) form for the Boundary Markers of the Original District of Columbia.
