The short-lived People’s Bank of Eggleston in Giles County was constructed by about 1925 and closed in 1932, a victim of the Great Depression. A modest two-story brick building resembling an American Foursquare house, the People’s Bank served as a central holding for the area’s burgeoning businesses, enabling local community members in the small mountain town to access financial services and growth opportunities during the 1920s. The People’s Bank of Eggleston survives, along with the nearby former Q.M. Pyne Store, as the only remaining representatives of the once-thriving commercial activity that transpired in the little Appalachian community of Eggleston.
