Spanning the tracks of the Southern Railway system, now owned by the Norfolk Southern Corporation, this metal-truss bridge is an excellently preserved representative of the many graceful metal structures that have efficiently guided vehicular traffic across obstacles since their development in the late 19th century. The bridge employs the popular single-span through-Pratt truss, 100 feet in length, with two wooden-beam approach spans, each 19 feet long. It was manufactured by the Keystone Bridge Company in 1882 and has remained in continuous service since its installation. The Oak Ridge Railroad Overpass is the state’s best example of its type.
