Chestnut Hill/Plateau Historic District is a Northside Richmond neighborhood with residential and commercial areas typical of a late-19th- and early-20th-century “streetcar suburb.” Most of its buildings were constructed between 1890 and 1930. The district sits at the southern tip of the larger area known as Highland Park. Architectural styles include Queen Anne, American Foursquare, Bungalow, Colonial Revival, and Gothic Revival. Most of the residential buildings are two-story frame structures. Some multiple dwellings, commercial buildings, fraternal lodges, schools, and churches are larger masonry structures. Original concrete sidewalks and tree-lined streets enhance the ambiance of the Chestnut Hill/Plateau Historic District.

Many properties listed in the registers are private dwellings and are not open to the public, however many are visible from the public right-of-way. Please be respectful of owner privacy.
