The John Rolfe Apartments are a rare and early example of International Style residential architecture in Richmond and the surrounding region. Among the only other examples of International Style residential architecture in the region are Azurest South and the Rice House. Designed and built in 1940, the John Rolfe Apartments are the most sophisticated of George Edward Hoppe, Jr.’s buildings, and best illustrate his interpretation of the International Style of architecture as practiced in Europe during the 1920s and 1930s.

Many properties listed in the registers are private dwellings and are not open to the public, however many are visible from the public right-of-way. Please be respectful of owner privacy.
